Mobile Photography for MOE teachers

It was an absolute joy sharing with my largest class to date, 170 teachers and staff of MOE.

We covered the basic of mobile photography and each group had a challenge to take part in,
to win prizes at then end. There were many creative entries and they all got to vote for each
others photos.

I’m glad that most of them left learning a new tip or 2 to help get better photos in the future.

Mobile Photography Workshop for Pre-school Teachers

As part of their jobs in the early education teaching sector, teachers have to pick the skill of making good images. Be it for daily documentation of student life, incident reporting, achievement records or celebration highlights, these teachers are at the forefront of these events. In order to capture these moments, the school has provided them the opportunity to learn basic mobile photography skills as part of their welfare package, so that they will be able to capture decent images when the need arises.

This workshop was a 2 hour session that covered the basics of photography. We shared about 3 basic techniques in composition, how to adjust your exposure and what makes a good image. We walked from Bayfront MRT station to the SG 50 Lattice and that allowed us to be exposed to both indoor / sheltered and outdoors settings to let the learners experience photographing in different environments.

Short Form Video Workshop for Teachers

This workshop was curated to upskill pre-school teachers and empower them with basic short video creation methods. The class was about 30 people and we all had a great time filming and editing their videos. The organisers were pleased with the results produced from that session.

Street Photography Workshop with NUSPS sutdents

I was invited by the National University of Singapore Photographic Society committee to share about street photography as part of Montage 2025 – a national photography competition held every year. We had a quick 20 min brief then headed out to the streets along the Singapore River to catch some street shots. My 10 year old came along as well and shot the group photo for us.

Street Photography Workshop

Street photography is an interesting genre of photography. It is very personal and subjective as everyone sees the same scene differently. So in this workshop, we taught them how to find light and wait for the right subject to come into the scene and execute the shot. We spent 3 hours roaming different parts of Chinatown looking for random incidences to capture. Here are some of the shots that were produced by the participants.

Fireworks Photography Workshop

Pre-national day period is the best time to shoot fireworks. We conducted a class for 10 people on 13 July to learn how to shoot fireworks. All of them had never shot fireworks before so exact steps were given to them, from camera settings to composition and timing to shoot the fireworks. We all had a great time capturing all the action from the rehearsals and the fireworks. Below are some of the images that the participants have captured.

Macro Photography Workshop

We had a full class of 10 people who attended our Macro Photography Workshop on 16 June 2024. The aim for this workshop is to learn how to achieve black background macro images straight-out-of-camera (SOOC). It started off with a short 20 minutes briefing on how and what to do followed by a demonstration then the learners were free to create their own images.

Here are some of the participant’s photos. Most of them have not shot macro images before and this is their first attempt.
